Well done Loz

Last year, Due to injury, Laurence acted as referee for the team strongman event this year he's injury free and teaming up with big Rob Frampton to compete for the title team strongman champions.

After his amazing performance in this years Britains strongest man final and his pending invite to Worlds Strongest Man Laurence is still going from strength to strength with a comfortable qualification today for the final of Britains most powerful man.

Heres Loz's write up on the day and the full results.

My aim 2day was 2get through with no injuries which is exactly what i did. I feel fine and will be back in the gym 2moro.

Farmers was quite easy as im feeling confidant with this event and just went in 4th gear for a safe run.

The log was rubbish by me but no excuses. i was hoping for 8 and did 8 but i was told i locked out just after the whistle, so only 7. no probs with the call as it was after the whistle. but a low 6th place.

Anvil carry, i got 2 go last (big advantage in this event) and did enough 2 win.

Deadlift 280kg for reps.

Went head 2 head with mick and just made sure i was one ahead. I had a good 3left in me if i needed them but as ive improved ive learnt 2 pace myself through the day rather than killing myself in every event.

last event was the stones, well done 2 wayne who has improved alot on this event. i was slow and steady but did them all.

some great performances by some of the guys 2day. Martin is looking much bigger and stronger, Richard has improved alot since i last saw him and if wayne holds back 10% he will be doing very well.

Ive got 2days of training ahead of me then im off 2 belurus on wed for a comp. (thanks Denny)

Looking forward to the final of this.

Severn valley strongman

Spent an enjoyable day watching and lugging stuff around at the wonderful Severn Valley Strongman competition.

Many congratulations to 'H' and Vinny, both competing in the Team Strongman event, for there respected 1st and 2nd places.

H, younger brother to Laurence Shahlaei a Britains strongest man 2008 finalist and also competing in team strongman, is only 18 years of age and clearly as a very bright future in the strongman sport.

It would seem Mrs Shahlaei sure feeds and looks afer her boys well.

The teams are in!

We now have all the teams registered for this years event and more details will follow shortly.

I would like to thank all of the lads including those offering to help for there support.

As I have stated this year i really want to support the Help for hero's campaign and all of the lads taking part are doing so at there own expense.

The same thanks goes to the event sponsors, Tribute real ale and Philip J Milton.

Here's a message from H4H explaining what the campaign is all about:

What is H4H all about? It’s about the blokes, our men and women. It’s about Derri, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It is about Ben, its about Steven and Andy and Mark, its about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes."

Team strongman 2008

We are proud to have Tribute once again as main sponsor for this years competition.
Tribute

This year we have removed the 105kg weight limit which means this year we open this up to teams of heavyweights !  Come and see what the big boys can lift as Britains Strongest man and Uk strongest man finalists and competitors come out to play on Ilfracombe pier.

Last year strongman and The Ilfracombe birdman event raised lots of money for good causes. This year we are going bigger and better to raise even more .My primary wish is to raise awareness of the fantastic 'Help for Heroes' campaign (scroll down the page for more)

Remember our Armed forces over Christmas

A Christmas poem with a difference

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.

Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.

My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,

Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

'What are you doing?' I asked without fear,
'Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!'

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said 'Its really all right,

'I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night.'
'It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.

No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died in the Somme on a day in December,'
Then he sighed, 'That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers.'

My dad stood his watch on the streets of Belfast,
And so here I am, my turn at last
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.

Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... a British flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.

I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..

Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall.'
'So go back inside,' he said, 'harbour no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right.'

'But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
'Give you money,' I asked, 'or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son.'

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
'Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.

For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us.'

Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities
